Statement
Sven Windszus was born in 1974 in northern Germany. He studied graphic design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim. Since 2003 he has lived in Berlin, where he works as a multimedia artist. In addition to his artistic work, he teaches software-based design applications at the UdK-Berlin and the HTW-Dresden.
Sven started his first artistic works in 2018 and has intensified them continuously since then. His works focus on the interaction of digital processes and the analysis of reality and consciousness. Sven wants to uncover the contradictions in the reality of his life, question habits and call his counterpart into dialogue. Many of his works are interactive installations that invite the viewer to actively participate. Through this kind of engagement, existing perceptions and ideas are brought into correlation with the content of his work. In many points of his works, moral and ethical issues are also questioned. Yet he is far from offering moralising solutions. Stylistically, computer-generated image worlds are broken up by analogue objects. These objects serve as an interface between fiction and reality and have a symbolic value for him.
Sven's work has been exhibited at various national and international group exhibitions in Greece, Italy and Sweden. In 2020 Sven won the "YICCA international contest of contemporary art" 2nd Prize and in 2021 the "BBA Artist Prize". In 2022 he showed his first solo exhibition at BBA Gallery in Berlin. In 2023 he won the "Honorary Mention" award at Prix Ars Electronica.
